I Am Growing
Zack Goes to the Doctor
Going to the doctor can sometimes be a scary experience for little ones. However, proactive preparation and setting expectations can help to make the visit a positive experience for everyone. We’ll talk about what generally happens in a doctor’s appointment, why we need doctors, and what medicine does. We’ll also identify some of the tools encountered in a doctor’s visit and why they are so important. Through it all, we’ll encourage little ones to talk about how they feel, putting names to their emotions, and giving a voice to the questions they have. As a result, children will feel more prepared and empowered on their next trip to the doctor.
My Community
Why? Why? Why?
The world around us is a fascinating place, and a simple walk through the community can fill little brains with all sorts of questions. “Why are stop signs red?” “How do clouds float?” “What do fish eat?” “Why can birds fly, but I can’t?” We’ll answer some of the random questions sparked by a walk through the neighborhood, while encouraging little ones to keep asking more, reminding them that questions are how we learn.
Facing Changes
Lily’s Waiting Game
Patience is never easy, and waiting is rarely fun. But little ones can come to understand why patience is so important, while finding fun things to do as they wait. We’ll explore some of the places where we may need to practice patience. And we’ll talk about the emotions that make waiting so difficult: being nervous, anxious, excited, and uncertain. We’ll learn some new games to play quietly in our minds or with friends that will help to pass the time more quickly. While we wait, we’ll also discuss the basics of time telling and review our counting skills.
My Family
Becky Can Smile
As little ones discover their emotions, they begin to notice the needs and emotions of those around them too. Friends and family members can experience different emotions from ours at different times, and we’ll talk about positive and appropriate ways to respond to the emotions of those around us. When someone is happy, we can laugh along with them. When someone is sad, we can wrap them in a hug. And when someone is lonely, we can smile.
Holidays & Seasons
Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall
The sweet smells of spring, the sunshine of summer, the crisp colors of fall, and the white chill of winter—there is so much to enjoy in every season! We’ll discover the basic science behind what makes the changing seasons and discuss the different types of weather found in each season too. But most importantly, we’ll talk about the sights and sounds and joys to be found as the seasons change—spring, summer, winter, and fall.
My Friends
We Can Imagine . . .
What can we do? Where can we go? What can we see? When a group of friends put their imaginations together, there’s no telling what can happen! Your child and his favorite friends will go on an adventure of a lifetime as they find ways to put their imaginations to work—building forts, exploring the outdoors, putting on talent shows, and even making a rocket ship to the moon! Even the skyisn’t the limit when friends use their imaginations together!
Solving Problems
Justin’s Many Faces
Understanding emotions can be tricky for little ones. But we’ll take a moment to look in the mirror and meet the many faces of our emotions. What makes us happy, angry, sad, and mad? And how do our faces act when we feel that way? Little ones will learn to recognize their many emotions, understand what causes them, and practice how to deal with them in healthy ways. Most importantly, little ones will learn that emotions are normal, healthy ways to respond to the world around us.
I Am Unique
Different and Same
Everywhere little ones look, there are so many people—so different, and yet so much the same. Readers will walk through a day-in-the-life around their community—at home, on the playground, at the grocery store—and will observe the ways in which each person is unique, and at the same time, is just like them. Although we may look different and talk differently and eat different foods, together, we all play,
